At our  Holiday dinner the 2010 William E. (Bill) Newbury Memorial Award went to Spike Bauroth.  

      
 Athletic Ability
 
Spike excels in every facet of the game. Excellent hitter, good fielder he also posses a strong and accurate throwing arm.
Being eighty years of age he out performs almost everyone else much younger in the leagues he plays in.
He has a passion and enthusiasm for playing the game the way it should be played.
As a team mate Spike is a leader, he inspires everyone to play up to their ability with focus and intensity. He is supportive and helpful and never critical of his team mates.
 
Community Service
 
Volunteer at Seventh Day Hospital Rehab Center.
Annual Wheel Chair Basketball Tournament.
Special Olympics-travel to Ireland & China to referee games.
Help out at MCSSA indoor softball. Umpire MCSSA league games.
Volunteer coach at his sons high school baseball team.

Bill Smith  Lifetime Achievement Awarded 

 

Posthumously, Bill Smith was given an MCSSA Lifetime Achievement Awarded for contributions to softball in the DC area.  Bill was a member of the National Senior Softball Hall of Fame, a sponsor of several tournament teams and MCSSA teams.  The presentation was make by Al Lavander.

2010 NEWBURY AWARD NOMINATIONS:
 
 
TO: MCSSA MEMBERS.  We need your prompt response for nominations for the 2010
William E. (Bill) Newbury Memorial Award.  The award will be presented at the MCSSA Annual Banquet on Friday, November 5, 2010 at the Golden Bull Restaurant in Gaithersburg beginning at 5:30 p.m.  The evening begins with a "No Host" cocktail hour (with a cash bar) followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. and Awards Program at 7:30 p.m.  The cost will be $33.00 per person.  You will receive your invitation to the Banquet in the mail in October.  But, you need to act now to submit your nominations for the Newbury Award.
 
 The criteria for nominating people for the award is listed below.  The award is presented to individuals whose contributions are recognized in one or more of the following areas:
 
1) By outstanding athletic ability and performance which would tend to reflect favorably on MCSSA (such as Most Valuable Player, or recognition by a National program or organization, or sustained high level of performance; 
 
2) By voluntary service to the organization through sustained involvement in a superior and noteworthy endeavor;
 
3) By virtue of a significant financial contribution or through services in-kind.

A nomination form follows.  You can include the information for your nomination in an email or via postal mail to one of the committee members.  The deadline for submitting nominations is October 12th, but we urge you to send your nominations as soon as possible before you get involved in Fall Ball or other endeavors.  Your cooperation is much appreciated.
